Take the Halloween Pledge: A pledge to practice at least one old Halloween tradition and introduce a new one into your celebrations this year.
In today’s busy world, it’s easy to forget the traditions we grew up with, the ones that made us fall in love with the Halloween holiday in the first place. That's why I'm encouraging Halloween fans to take the Halloween Pledge.
This pledge is based solely on the honor system. No one’s keeping track and no one’s judging. This is a promise to ourselves to continue to uphold Halloween traditions and incorporate new traditions into our lives. You can post here that you plan to take the pledge and share your plans if you’d like. Posting is absolutely voluntarily. Encouraged but not required. This is simply a chance for people to have some fun and celebrate together as an online community.
Why should we practice old traditions?
Because traditions comfort us and give us a sense of purpose and belonging. Traditions can bring families and communities together. Traditions help heal our souls when we’re grieving or in periods of transition.
Why should we practice new traditions?
Because embarking on new adventures refreshes our minds, revitalizes our souls and keeps our spirits young. Learning something new or going to new places helps our minds grow. When we step outside our comfort zones, we have the chance to make discoveries about our friends, our families and ourselves.
Here a few Halloween traditions:
Go Trick or Treating
Pass out candy on Halloween night
Guising or dressing up in costume
Carve and display a jack-o-lantern on the front porch or in the window
Attend a Halloween bonfire
Look into a mirror at midnight (if you’re single)
Go visit a haunt (real or otherwise)
Hold a séance
Perform Divination acts
Visit a fortune teller
Attend a Halloween party
Play Halloween games or participate in a scavenger hunt
Bob for apples
Eat a candied apple
Decorate inside your home or in the yard
Participate in a Halloween Card Exchange
Complete a Halloween Bucket List
Participate in a Halloween Photo Challenge
Hold a scary movie marathon
Read a classic scary novel
Do you know of any other great Halloween traditions to practice?
